Allen Amyotte is the Director, Internal Audit & University Auditor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and has held this title since May of 2018. The internal audit function is responsible for both compliance and continuous auditing (data analytics) in addition to operational and internal controls auditing. The University of Calgary is a public research-focused university with an enrolment of approximately 55,000 full time equivalent students. 

Allen has held an equal number of operational and internal audit roles in his 25-year career in both the public and private sector. Most recently, he was the Director, Internal Audit at the University of Calgary, also a public research-focused university with an enrolment of approximately 32,000 students. Also at the University of Calgary,  he was the Director of Enterprise Risk Management  where he led theimplementation of a very successful ISO 31000 based ERM program. Allen also led a significant PeopleSoft reimplementation that successfully introduced critical internal controls to satisfy external stakeholders of the University of Calgary. 

Allen’s internal audit experience spans across multiple industries from being a Director of Internal Audit at the Calgary Health Region (a $3B public health authority), to Manager of Internal Audit at WestJet Airlines where he co-developed the internal audit function, initiated a COSO ERM-based risk assessment process and led the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance project. He was also a Senior Internal Auditor at TransAlta Corporation (a $5B private utility). Allen has worked internationally in accounting and audit and has public accounting experience with a Canada-based national firm, MNP. 

Allen holds an honours baccalaureate degree in liberal arts from the University of Saskatchewan. Allen is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assessment (CRMA). He is also a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
