Membership Types
ACUA provides three types of memberships – institutional, individual, and non-higher ed.
Institutional Memberships
This type of membership is an organization-level membership, and is reserved for institutions of higher education. Each institution pays one membership fee. Each institution has an Institutional Representative and designates the other individuals at his/her institution that are also eligible to be covered under that membership
Individual Memberships
An individual currently affiliated with an organization that is eligible for institutional membership but the organization does not allow for an institutional membership to be paid by the organization even though the affiliated individual has an interest in ACUA or internal auditing.
Non- Higher Education
Non-Higher Education (NHE) Members: All individuals providing services to a postsecondary institution of higher education and learning, but not actually employed by such institution. These individuals would include an external service provider (e.g., public accounting firm, consultants, etc.). Non-Higher Education Members will be subject to customized membership rates and restrictions as prescribed by the association’s Board of Directors and by-laws.
Emeritus Membership
An individual who is retired from an ACUA member institution and is earning no active employment compensation income from that institution or other ACUA membership-eligible institution.
To join under the Emeritus Membership, please contact us at info@acua.org.

Institutional Membership Dues
The dues structure is based on the number of staff in the Internal Audit department and other members that will be covered under the institutional membership. The dues structure seeks to establish equity between smaller and larger departments with fees comparable to the benefits received.
Membership Tier | # Members Serviced | Annual Dues |

Tier 1 | 1-5 | $225 per member |
Tier 2 | 6-10 | $200 per member |
Tier 3 | 11+ | $175 per member |
Individual Membership
$225
Please note: Individual and Emeritus Membership is a restricted category and must be approved by the Membership Committee.
Emeritus Membership

Prorated Dues Schedule
For new members, both institutional and individual membership dues are prorated after March 1. Renewing members are not eligible for prorated rates.
Membership Renewals
ACUA membership renewals will be based each year on the number of members listed at your institution at the time of renewal. ACUA will carry forward your current member list to determine your institution’s dues for the next calendar year. Each institution will reaffirm the number of members on the institutional membership on an annual basis. Renewal notices for the upcoming year are mailed each November and due by December 31.
Renewal Process
NOTE: for the upcoming dues renewal period, ACUA has instituted an online renewal and institution roster management system. We encourage all institutional members to use the online system, rather than mail or fax in renewal payments or institutional roster changes. The instructions apply to those marked as institutional representatives in our database. If you believe that you should be listed as a representative for your institution, please contact ACUA headquarters for assistance.
If you have any questions regarding membership renewals, please contact the ACUA Executive Office at (202) 449-1090 or info@acua.org.
To renew your ACUA Institutional membership, please follow the steps below:
- Login into the ACUA website with your personal passcodes. The old Institution ID you may have used in the past is no longer needed.
- Once you are logged in, visit your membership overview page, and then follow the link to renew your membership.
- Click RENEW NOW on the bottom left side of the screen
- From there, the system will guide you through the renewal process.
Membership Changes
Any changes, additions, or deletions to current members must be documented on your Contacts page. If no changes are received, all individuals currently listed on the ACUA annual renewal notice you receive via mail will be included on the organization’s member list and billed the next calendar year according to the ACUA membership dues structure.
To add or delete someone from your institutional membership, or to update member contact information, please visit your membership overview page.
If you have any questions regarding membership changes, please contact the ACUA Executive Office at (202) 449-1090 or info@acua.org.
