Author Guidelines

Style:

Articles for CandU Auditor should be written in a straightforward, clear style. The following guidelines will assist authors preparing articles for possible publication in the journal.

  • Follow principles of style from the “AP Style Guide” including :
    o one space at the end of a sentence,
    o position titles in lower case,
    o spell out numbers one through nine (after that use 10, 11, etc.) ,
    o avoid a comma before a conjunction in a series: The fruit basket contained apples, oranges and bananas. (tip: “when in doubt, leave it out.”),
    o avoid using quotation marks with slang expressions or single words where meaning is clear,
    o write e-mail rather than email, and
    o write Web rather than web.
  • Avoid scholarly formats and styles.
  • Avoid use of the first person.
  • Avoid excessive jargon and define the jargon you must use.
  • Anticipate the reader’s questions and write accordingly.
  • Ensure the article is typed-double spaced preferably submit it electronically in Word 98 or higher or text file format.
  • Keep the article’s length to approximately 400-1500 words.
  • Use tables, charts and graphs to emphasize and clarify points in the article and add visual interest; these graphics should be computer-generated and computer-transmittable whenever possible. Generally, no more than one graphic per 250 words should be submitted with a maximum of six graphics per any article.
  • Cite tables, charts and graphs that are used in the text of the article. (Label each)
  • Avoid multi-color graphics within the article as only black and blue are used within the journal.
  • Author biographical by-line is limited to twenty-five words.
  • Submit an electronic photograph of the author when the article has been accepted for publication.  Photograph should not be imbedded in the article.

Author Compensation:

College and University Auditor does not pay authors for providing manuscripts. Authors receive three complimentary copies of the issue in which their article appears.

Copyright:

The Association of College and University Auditors assumes sole copyright of any article published in College and University Auditor. Articles published elsewhere are generally not acceptable. Requests for reprinting an article must be directed in writing to the publisher or editor.
